Podcast guestSteve Hill
Bassist in the Judas Priest tribute Hellion and the Megabeth Project who moved into rock stages through Mad Mike's jam in 2020.
Steve Hill has played bass since 1996, after first running live sound, and learned by ear by playing along to disco CDs before chord charts were online. Steve didn't play rock music on stage until November 2020, when a drummer friend invited Steve to Mad Mike's jam, and it quickly became a new passion. Through the jams Steve went from knowing almost no rock songs to being able to hear a song once in the parking lot and see the bass pattern in Steve's head. Steve is in Hellion, a Judas Priest tribute that formed at the Route 47 jam, and the Megabeth Project, a band built around deeper cuts from bands like Queensryche, Triumph, Whitesnake, Dream Theater and European symphonic metal. The Megabeth Project shot its press kit video at Bogart's and was offered a gig on the spot, and it now plays three or four shows a year. Steve spent a year in Halfway There, also played in Atomic Playboys, and fills in with bands like Hollywood Boulevard. Dream Theater is Steve's favorite band, and the dream gig would be playing bass for 1970s-era Heart.
