Podcast guestGen X Jukebox
'90s costume tribute band that jumps from Garth Brooks to Metallica to Kris Kross, with dozens of costume changes a night.
Gen X Jukebox is a '90s nostalgia show dreamed up by bassist Brian "BC" Schminiak during COVID. It began as a laid-back project playing a couple of shows a month, and now plays seven to nine shows a month in summer. The current lineup, the band's seventh, features singers Kitty D, Ryan Shoots and Brian "Tuni," who also plays guitar, with Andy on guitar, Peter on drums and BC on bass. Each singer becomes a character, from Eddie Vedder to Britney Spears to Shania Twain.

- The band does about 40 costume changes a show, playing characters from Eddie Vedder and James Hetfield to Barbie and Ken.
- The idea is to be "genre bending": Garth Brooks into Metallica into Kris Kross, so nobody waits long for a song they know.
- Kitty D dropped out of college at 19 to perform and played Apollonia in the Prince tribute Chase and Ovation.
- Kitty has a costume closet and never throws anything away, "because who knows if Cher is going to need that."
- Ryan Shoots first sang at the Ziggy's jam on November 1, 2023, with "Mr. Brownstone," and auditioned for Gen X Jukebox a few months later.
- Ryan started as a drummer, wanting to be like Poison's Rikki Rockett, and took second place at a high school talent show with a drum solo.
- Tuni lost a college vocal scholarship to walk onto the track team, then learned guitar on a roommate's borrowed guitar. The first song Tuni learned all the way through was Nirvana's "Polly."
- Singing Gin Blossoms songs in the car convinced Tuni that singing in a band was possible.
- This lineup is the seventh version of the band.
- Recommended guests: Kat Perkins, Mick Sterling, Shalo Lee, Chan Poling, Michael Bland and Chris Hawkey.
